Brindley & Finch Exhibit
Opens September 6
The Hendersonville Arts council inivites you to attend the reception for artists, Nathanial Brindley & Ty Finch at historic Monthaven, 1154 West Main Street. The reception is Saturday, September 6 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. There is no admission fee.
Ty Finch grew up in a small college town in central Texas and currently lives in Nashville. He attended Davidson College and received his medical degree from Tulane University. He practiced thoracic and vascular surgery for 30 years, closing his practice in 2000 to teach high school science and coach football. He began oil painting about eight years ago and is now devoting most of his energies to painting and mountain hiking. His lifelong love of the outdoors and deep appreciation of the natural world is reflected in his paintings Skies and Shadows. He says, “I am currently developing a series of large-scale paintings that emphasize the wide open space, flat countryside and dynamic large skies of Texas.” Finch’s use of color and boldness draws the viewer into the depth of his work.
Nathanial Brindley currently resides in Nashville. Having a father who was perserverant in his artistic work and a mother who was creative, Brindley accredits to being invaluable, both foundationally and ideologically, in basing his perception and understanding of art. As a child, he always had a pencil in hand, though it wasn’t’ until he attended Middle Tennessee State University that he began to rekindle and fortify his ambitions as an artist.
Brindley while attending university, traveled to Seoul, South Korea in the spring of 2004 where he studied Korean Art and History. In the winter of that year he then traveled to London, England, where he took a course that concentrated on the traditional drawing techniques of silverpoint. His love of travel has continued to lead him throughout Asia, into parts of Europe and North America. He says, “Traveling is something that, for him, is vital in shaping his ideological and interpretational perspective upon his artwork and the rest of the world.”
The exhibit will be on display September 2 – 26. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Hendersonville Arts Council takes Music to the Schools
For a number of years the Hendersonville Arts Council has taken different art programs into the school. Recently the Council took music to the schools that provided an educational component for the students. The students experienced meeting and hearing a group of percussionists who shared the different aspects of their music with a variety of their instruments. The vibraphone, acoustic congas and shakers, Steel Pans or Steel Drums and more modern electronic percussion were demonstrated.
The musicians were Jerry, Tachoir, Tom Roady, Todd London and Roy Voght. Tachoir on vibraphone is an active artist/clinician for the Ludwin/Musser division of Conn-Selmer Company and a graduate of Berklee College of Music. Roady, an independent multi-percussionist and active as a recording session musician, played acoustic congas and various percussion instruments along with a relatively new electronic device called the “Hand Sonic” which can be programmed to play any type of the 1000 internal sounds from percussion to sounds of birds and thunder. London is a steel drummer/multi-percussionist and a faculty member of Belmont University and plays mostly the steel drums in this group. Vogt plays bass and is a faculty member of Belmont University.
Schools that participated were Station Camp High School, Merrol Hyde Magnet School, Knox doss Middle School, Hendersonville High School, and Pope John Paul II High School. The Music in Schools program was done with the help of the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Musicians Performance Trust.
